  • Data Scientist
    Edinburgh Permanent

    From 80,000 GBP Annually

    What Are We Building?

We are building a unique software platform which integrates project management tooling with data science and analytics to support teams working on large change programmes.  Our software is used to make better project decisions and predict upcoming issues through data insight, visualisation, predictive analytics and real-time reporting.

We are starting from the ground up to build a system for all project stakeholders and ensuring that at every interaction, value is added, insight is communicated and efficiency is gained. There’s no use gathering information about projects if the capture of data becomes an overhead in itself and the data is never used.

Data is core to our business, too. By analysing data from projects, our platform will highlight future issues, predict the probability of slippage and provide real sentiment analysis on project delivery.

The system is a cloud-based collaboration tool, built using cutting edge open source technologies.

    What are we looking for?

We are currently looking to fill several roles in our Client-Facing Data Science team and this document provides an outline of the requirements of the Client-Facing Data Scientist role. You will be a key member of the team and will be responsible for undertaking hands-on Data Science investigations on behalf of our clients. It is essential for you to have a minimum of 3 years experience of undertaking Data Science  in a commercial or applied R&D environment and are comfortable working on client sites, as part of client teams.

Please note that this is not a traditional consultancy role. We are looking for hands-on data scientists, who are skilled at deriving insight from large, complex, data sets using a range of different platforms and technologies. You will need to have excellent client-handling skills, be a fluent communicator in written and spoken English and be able to work with a diverse range of client staff – from recent graduates through to senior management.

As part of the candidate selection process, we will look for clear evidence that applicants have the required experience of hands-on Data Science  and you will be required to pass a test of your analytical abilities if your application is to be successful.

Please note also that you must be willing to work up to 4 days per week on one or more of our clients’ sites, which are currently situated in the City of London and Bristol. It is essential, therefore, that you are willing to travel as needed to meet this requirement – which usually involves some overnight stays away from home.

    Requirements

    • The ideal candidate for the role of Client-Facing Data Scientist will have all the following attributes:
    • A pioneer who is genuinely passionate about Data Science and who thrives on applying knowledge in scenarios that may never have been tried anywhere else before.
    • A knowledge-hungry Data Science specialist who actively seeks out opportunities for learning and development
    • In addition to being fully familiar with standard Data Science and machine learning techniques, the ideal candidate should have experience in one or more of the following areas:

    •  Machine Learning/Deep Learning
    •  Information retrieval
    •  Text mining
    •  Neural networks
    •  Bayesian models
    •  Graph theory
    •  Natural language processing (NLP)
    •  Recommendation engines

    • Highly proficient in typical Data Science software such as R, Python, SQL, Hadoop and its associated tools
    • Must be able to explain Data Science solutions to non-Data Scientists and to non- technical business stakeholders
    • Confident in working autonomously and in working as part of a multidisciplinary team
    • A MSc or PhD in maths, physics, computer science or other highly numerate background from a leading university
    • Fluent communicator in both written and spoken English, with an engaging personality and a professional, yet approachable, style
    • Previous experience of working in the Financial Service sector is strongly preferred, although this is not essential

    Benefits & Compensation

    • Salary around £50-80K (depending on skills and experience)
    • 25 days annual leave (plus 8 bank holidays)
    • Comprehensive benefit package including private medical, well-being cover, discounted gym membership, and life insurance
